We bought a riding mower 14 years ago and we had to replace the original battery last year with over 1200 hours on it. +1 our Strong Boxes have been good to us. If u can’t find excide batteries just about as good tho. Go with the strong box batteries they’ll out last more box store brands. IIRC, if you still have the factory hold down bolt and strap it will work for a 31, but not a big deal to figure something else out if it isn't. There is plenty of room in there, if a guy was really worried about cold starting you could probably get two smaller batteries in there and wire them parallel. Might have to change a cable end or two, but if they are original they probably need replaced anyway. Maybe the CCA are a little different, but I don't think it is noticeable. Spending that much on a crappy Strongbox battery is a waste of $$$ and you'll have to replace it in a few years.Īll of mine have stud post Group 31 truck batteries in them now. I have couple of Deere's that require that battery. You might be able to find an exact replacement size from another source, but I doubt you'll save much money. My advice is to pay JD and forget about it. If you can find another battery to fit in there for a cheaper price you'll probably sacrifice cca and will have to modify the hold-down. It is an odd sized battery with a lot of cca.
